The Noun in Arabic

A noun, in Arabic, is a word which indicates a meaning in itself. But there is no reference to time.

The noun can be made the subject or object of a sentence.

The noun can be in any of the three cases:


  • Nominative
  • Genitive
  • Accusative


The noun can have Tanween.

The noun can be used with the vocative particle Yaa.

The noun can have Al (Alif Laam) prefixed to it.

The noun can have attribution to it as in the construct.
